Prosthodontics (Partial and Full removable dentures)

We cater for all types of removable partial dentures, precision attached partial dentures and full upper and lower dentures.

Partial Plastic dentures are those where one places the partial dentures around existing healthy teeth. These dentures may have clips or clasps to aid in their retention, but because they are plastic and so are weaker than the metal they tend to cover a greater amount of the fitting area than metal partial dentures. The plastic dentures also rest on your soft tissues so sometimes there are problems with ulcerations or ill fits and so require a dentist to adjust them.

Metal Partial dentures are designed and made from chromium cobalt metal, which is very strong. These are designed to fit around your remaining teeth and these must be healthy. These dentures actually sit on your teeth as such and so do not place any undue pressure or interfere with your soft tissues (gums and roof of the mouth). These dentures due to their strength can therefore be much smaller than the plastic ones, and so do not feel so obtrusive. The one disadvantage is that in some instances you may show the clips or clasps because of the position of the retaining teeth.

Precision attached dentures these are where in some instances we have remaining teeth that we can use with special attachments which mean a denture can be well retained yet you can not see any clasps or clips. But there will need to be some of the supporting teeth crowned so as the special anchors are cast with the crowns (see crowning)
